This Ruling Is:
(a) unjust and not in accordance with our Constitution, rights, beliefs or the basic premise for which our nation was founded;
(b) technicalities have been stretched beyond limits to appease those who seek refuge behind our "Constitution", our "Bill Of Rights", and, under the very flag they demand is their right to desecrate; and
(c) validation and enforcement of this ruling, by the highest court in our land, is an insult and outrage to American citizens and members of our armed forces.
The American Flag is a symbol of our freedom...one that American service men and women proudly served under and stood by, in war and peace. When I see the American Flag flying, my first thought is how its brilliant colors majestically and gracefully hug the sky as it waves. My perpetual feeling is that I am proud and fortunate to be an American citizen.
The core of the issue is that burning the flag falls far short from free speech. Burning the flag is an act of violence, coupled by wanton intent to create a disturbance, giving rise to more violence, unrest and chaos. Additionally, burning the American Flag equates to deliberate destruction to part of one's home, thus, intentionally perpetrating full destruction upon one's home .... our country.
If the protestors and flag burners do not like their "home", they should leave ... forthwith!
Protesting the government can be done in an eloquent effective manner that officials will respect and heed. However, setting a flame to, burning and trampling the banner for which "We Stand", the very blood that spilled to see it wave free is also destroyed. Dishonored are the spirits of all who died in battle, under our flag, as well as the pride that held it high.
Each of our soldiers go into battle, or patrol our home perimeters during peace time under the emblem of The United States Of America and our homeland. They also do it for the so-called "patriots" who dare to burn it in protest or flight of fitful uncare. They do it to honor our nation and freedom and to ensure freedom for our posterity.
In light of the tragic and horrific events of September 11, 2001, would any protester, or flag burner, DARE to take down and burn our American Flag, flying majestically over the New York ruins, that our heroic New York Firemen so valiantly raised it in support and allegiance? I can assure you that the answer is an emphatic and resounding "NO!”
Now, that we are at war, these very protesters and flag burners are flocking to a "safe harbor and sanctuary" under our great American Flag. Being a patriot only when it is convenient, is a disgrace!
Further, I hold the same disdain and disrespect for the government officials who deem burning My Flag, Our Flag, a right, which is protected under "free speech". This is a blatant exhibition of dementia. It is also an arrogant act of unpatriotism and disrespect for all our heroes…..Our Veterans and Our POW/MIA/KIAs… in the highest form.
The United States Flag Code adopted in 1942 by Congress provides the rules for honoring and displaying the flag. The code states, "The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing." For this reason, the code stipulates specifically how the flag should be respected, handled, displayed and used. For example, the flag should never be allowed to touch the ground or floor, and it must be properly illuminated in darkness.
How dare the Supreme Court override this, and dishonor our Flag, under the guise of "free speech!!!
